Grinding tobacco or weed to the right consistency is critical for a great smoking session. However, not many people realize that starting with a clean grinder is also essential. A weed grinder isn’t a cast iron pan; you need to wash and clean it regularly to get the most out of it.
Here’s how you can go about it.
Step 1: Disassemble
Most grinders are made as multiple-piece structures that can be taken apart when needed. Typically, there will be a lid, a collection chamber, a grinding chamber, and of course, the kief chamber. Some may even have additional screens in between.
Very carefully, disassemble all the pieces that you know are there. Be especially careful with any screens because those are pretty delicate.
Step 2: Scrape, Tap, and Brush Off the Leftovers
Once everything is disassembled, look for leftover herb bits in your grinder. Tap and dump these on tissue paper. Of course, some bits won’t just come apart with tapping, so you might want to use a dab tool to scrape it all off. Once you’ve scraped the whole surface, use a cotton bud to brush it all off.
You can also use the cotton bud to reach smaller spaces and give the grinder a more thorough cleaning.
Also, some people prefer storing the scraped-out leftovers for a smoke session. You can do the same; just make sure not to store it with any of the fresh stuff.
Step 3: Soak
Once the grinder pieces are all empty, you can soak them in isopropyl alcohol. Create a bath in a container, or use a Ziploc. All that’s really necessary is for the grinder parts to be completely submerged.
Make sure the pieces are soaked for 30 minutes to an hour before you remove them from the alcohol for the next step.
Step 4: Scrub, Rinse and Dry Off
Once you remove the grinder pieces from the isopropyl bath, rinse them with warm water. You can also use a nylon brush, or an old, soft toothbrush to give the parts a gentle scrub to eliminate any remaining particles and gunk.
After the final rinse, spread out the parts on a paper towel and let them dry.
Step 5: Reassemble
Once the parts are completely dry, put the grinder back together. Make sure to put all the parts back the same way as they were before you disassembled them (take pictures if you think you might forget!).
And voila! Enjoy your clean grinder!
Of course, you can’t enjoy or clean a grinder if you don’t have any. But let’s change that. Check out and buy tobacco grinders online at Gorilla Wholesale. We also have weed grinders online that you can choose from.
